East Bristol History Group

We evolved from a group in Easton but, while Easton remains our core, we now cover a wider area - as reflected in our title.

Membership is open to anyone on payment of an annual subscription. This entitles members to free monthly meetings, a newsletter and access to our Local History exhibitions. We also arrange visits to places of interest.

The Group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 2pm at Stapleton Road Congregational Church, Easton.

Our monthly newsletter is supplied free to members and we also produce pamphlets compiled from our research. It is intended that over the years the pamphlets will build up to a comprehensive reference work on the history of Easton and East Bristol. The following are now available for sale:

• John Street Angel - the first part of Jean Quirey's (née Angell) family history detailing her childhood and the affect of the Blitz on John Street, Easton. £1.50
• Rhymes of a Railwayman - a reprint of a book of poetry by Henry Moss OBE. Henry Moss worked as a Signalman at Montpelier Railway Station and was a great campaigner for the social rights of workers during his lifetime. £2
• Memories of Trams, Bikes and the Dance - a collection of memories from one of our members, Ron Notton, recalling his youthful days. £1.50
• Outside the Gate - St Jude's recalled, during the 18th and 19th centuries, compiled from notes of a lecture given by George Thompson. £1.50
